The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at ESIC Dental College is a premier center for education, patient care, and research in the specialized field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The department is dedicated to diagnosing and managing complex conditions affecting the face, mouth, and jaws. It offers advanced treatment for maxillofacial trauma, maxillofacial pathologies, impacted teeth, and temporomandibular joint disorders.

The department’s faculty comprises highly skilled and experienced surgeons who provide both surgical and non-surgical solutions tailored to individual patient needs. In addition to providing top-tier clinical care, the department is committed to training undergraduates through rigorous academic programs and hands-on surgical experience. Students and junior residents gain exposure to a wide range of procedures, including disimpaction, trauma surgeries, dental implant placement, jaw surgeries, and reconstructive techniques.

DEPARTMENT OF ORAL MEDICINE AND RADIOLOGY

Oral medicine is a branch of dentistry that bridges a gap between general medicine and dentistry. It deals with the diagnosis and nonsurgical management of diseases and conditions affecting oral and maxillofacial region including salivary gland disease, orofacial pain, and dental treatment of patients with medical disorders. Department aligned itself with a patient centered care approach considering behavioral, socioeconomic and environmental aspects and their impact on overall health with due consideration to patient values and preferences. Department provide hospital-based training to its students to enhance their knowledge and clinical skills in managing various complex oral conditions that can have potential systemic implications on general health, managing aging population with associated comorbidities or individuals taking numerous medications. Oral and maxillofacial radiology unit of this department deals with the study of radiation including x-rays as applicable to oral diseases. This section trains the student about various radiographic techniques and their interpretation for the diagnose oral & maxillofacial diseases. Facility of various routine intraoral radiographs including periapical, bitewing, occlusal radiograph is available in the department. Inhouse facility of various extraoral radiographs like lateral cephalogram, PNS, PA view, SMV including orthopantomography is also available to caters patient vising the department for their diagnostic or treatment needs.

Prevention Pays! We work to improve the health of the people by preventing dental illness, promoting healthy choices and protecting oral health.”

Department of Public Health Dentistry focuses on the science and art of preventing and controlling dental diseases, and promoting dental health through organized community efforts. Our faculty and staff are responsible for the planning and execution of community based extra mural experiences (both clinical and non clinical) and public health course work of the dental students. Department is extensively engaged in preventive, promotive and curative services along with frequent outreach activities. We also conduct oral health education programs in various outreach camps, satellite centers, industrial camps in rural as well as urban areas and provide curative services through fully equipped mobile dental vans. The department has a tobacco cessation counselling center with NRT regime which has proved to be a very effective way of health intervention to reduce the impact of smoked and smokeless tobacco use.

DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY AND ENDODONTICS

The mission of the department is to promote health care, provide education on par with international standards, and pursue excellence in patient management. Well-organized and quality dental treatment procedures are provided to the ever-increasing number of insured persons (IPs) visiting the department for their treatment. The department aims at the diagnosis & treatment of dental caries and its sequel, teeth malformations and discolorations, thereby restoring the teeth to their natural form, function, and aesthetics.

Clinical services provided:

For patients, we offer a complete program of dental services with an emphasis on preventive and restorative dentistry, like treatment of carious lesions with amalgam as well as tooth-colored restorations, root canal procedures, endodontic surgeries, and management of traumatic teeth, to name a few.

Infrastructure:

The department is equipped with 17 modern dental chairs, a radiographic room, and the latest instruments like electronic apex locators, RVGs, rotary handpieces, endo motor units, endodontic loupes, thermoplasticized gutta percha obturation units, the MAP system for MTA applications, and an array of specialized dental materials. The department also undergoes regular fumigation every week to ensure a high level of sterilization and disinfection.

The department supports the institution's academic goals through teaching, patient care, and research and provides high-quality didactic & clinical instruction to students in the discipline of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics. The preclinical conservative lab has 30 Phantom Head units installed and equipped with intraoral cameras and a state-of-the-art ceramic laboratory.

The department has a dedicated and experienced faculty, all of whom are committed to excellence in education, patient care, scholarly activity, and research. All the faculty members have authored several scientific articles in specialty and dental journals of national as well as international repute. There is special emphasis on attending, participating in, and conducting continuing professional development programs to enhance and enrich professional knowledge.

DEPARTMENT OF PROSTHODONTICS AND CROWN & BRIDGE AND IMPLANT DENTISTRY

Prosthodontics is the diagnosis, planning, treatment, and maintenance of the oral function, appearance, comfort, and health of patients with clinical conditions related to the use of biocompatible substitutes for missing or deficient teeth or oral and maxillofacial tissues.

Prosthodontists are specialists in tooth replacement and restoration; they create smiles that are both aesthetically pleasing and properly functional. Patients can achieve optimal oral health and aesthetics with veneers, crowns, dentures, and dental implants. A prosthodontist can enhance a patient's comfort, attractiveness, oral function, and overall health through diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance.

In the fields of fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, and occlusion, the Department of Prosthodontics offers instruction and patient care.

The Department of Prosthodontics has state-of-the-art clinical and laboratory facilities, including completely adjustable articulators, an implant section, and modern ceramic equipment, to name a few.

Modern dentistry, complete and removable partial dentures, fixed partial dentures/prosthesis, complex care management involving several experts, dental implants, and cosmetic dentistry are among the treatments and techniques in which prosthodontists are equipped to provide care. Unique requirements of elderly patients, Infants born without teeth or with a cleft palate, Traumatic injuries, snoring and sleep difficulties, temporomandibular joint syndrome/disorder, Maxillofacial prosthesis operations, including reconstruction following oral cancer and ongoing care

In order to give patients high-quality prosthodontic care, department teaching places a strong emphasis on acquiring fundamental information in addition to the newest methods. It also strives to maintain a delicate balance between theoretical and practical proficiency. Students receive training in understanding and providing holistic treatment for their patients to attain optimal oral health, esthetics, and function, in addition to the prosthodontic demands of the patient. Teaching dentistry students to be proficient in the field of prosthodontics is the aim of the Department of Prosthodontics and its faculty. Students are taught the necessary knowledge and abilities to meet patients' basic prosthodontic demands through both didactic and clinical instruction. In order to acquire the fundamental skills needed to handle more complicated situations in the prosthodontics course and clinics, students are required to complete simulation and bench courses.

DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTICS

Periodontics is one of the most important and rapidly evolving branch of dentistry that is concerned with not only treating a wide spectrum of diseases pertaining to periodontal tissues but also with multidisciplinary treatment modalities relevant to the other disciplines of advanced clinical dentistry.

The department of Periodontics at ESIC Dental College is well equipped with the latest materials and instruments including laser and electrosurgical unit.

Periodontal infections are the main cause of tooth loss and also put the patient at higher risk for other diseases. Therefore, the faculty is focused on rendering prompt treatment and also connecting with the patient at preventive and maintenance stages.

The following are the services offered in the Department of Periodontics:

Patient education and motivation regarding oral hygiene maintenance, smoking and tobacco cessation and relationship between periodontal infections and systemic diseases etc
Organization of oral health education camp
Prevention and Diagnosis of periodontal diseases
Management of periodontal infections by non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapies
Management of bone defects using bone grafts and GTR
Application of lasers in periodontal surgical and esthetic therapies
Interdisciplinary treatment approach to achieve good overall prognosis and a functionally stable dentition

Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics indulges in undergraduate BDS theoretical teaching along with clinical and preclinical training of orthodontics . Also patients with Orthodontic problems i.e. mal-aligned teeth are examined and treated in the department . Preventive, interceptive and corrective orthodontic treatment is carried out with a variety of appliances like removable orthodontic appliances ,myofunctional appliances and extra- oral appliances. Growth modification of jaws is done in young patients. Pre-surgical and post-surgical orthodontics is also done in patients requiring Orthognathic surgery. Main aim is to achieve proper esthetics and function in the patients. Various research projects are also being carried out in thedepartment.

DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC & PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY

The department provides preventive and comprehensive oral health care to children till 15 years of age including those with special health care needs. Department has the state-of-the-art equipment, such as Radio-videography, X-Ray unit for the treatment of children. MEDICAL DEPARTMENTS

DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY

Department of Anatomy at ESI Dental College is a full-fledged department responsible for teaching Anatomy to dental students. Anatomy is the foundation on which the practice of oral surgery and dentistry rests.

Faculty & other Staff Members

We have strength of three faculty members including one Associate professor and two Assistant Professors on contract basis.
The department also has two staff members including a dissection hall attendant and a nursing orderly.

Infrastructure of the Department

Department of Anatomy has fully equipped histology lab, dissection lab and a museum.
All the laboratories have entire spectrum of histology slides, posters and specimens , cadavers, human bones, required in the teaching and training of the students.
The evaluation and regular examinations are held in the department as per guidelines of the Dental Council of India.
The department also collaborates with other departments and is involved in various research projects on an ongoing basis.

DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY

Department of Biochemistry at ESIC Dental College, Rohini is responsible for teaching Biochemistry to dental students as a part of combined subject Human Physiology and Biochemistry. Biochemistry is important to learn and understand the metabolic processes in biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology relevant to the human system and dental practice. The students learn molecular basis of diseases, their diagnosis and outcomes creating the foundation on which the practice of oral health and dentistry rests. We have the strength of three fulltime faculty members including one professor and two associate professors. The department also has two staff members including a laboratory technician and a nursing orderly. The laboratory has the facility for teaching basic biochemical techniques, equipment and posters used for diagnosis of various diseases required in the teaching and training of the students. The evaluation and regular examinations are held in the department as per guidelines of the Dental Council of India. The department also collaborates with other departments for interdepartmental teaching and seminars.

The Department of Pathology at ESI Dental College is a full-fledged department responsible for teaching Pathology to dental students. Pathology is the foundation on which oral health and dentistry practice rests. We have strength of three full-time faculty members including one professor and two associate professors. The laboratory has the entire spectrum of pathology slides, posters and specimens required in the teaching and training of the students. DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SURGERY

Department of General Surgery, ESIC Dental College and hospital Rohini basically caters to the teaching of General Surgery Subject for the IIIrd year BDS students. . . This involves seeing OPD patients, IPD patients, performing Surgeries, looking after emergencies, taking rounds of Surgical patients in wards, emergency and ICU.

DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHESIA AND CRITICAL CARE

The department of Anaesthesia in ESIC Dental college, Rohini offers peri-operative care to all Oral and maxillofacial surgery patients including Pre-Anaesthetic clinic, anaesthesia during surgery, post operative care, pain management, ICU care when required. We have successfully given general anaesthesia to around 85 patients in the previous one year apart from providing regular assistance for Anaesthesia and PAC care to ESIC hospital, Rohini for obstetrics and gynaecology, Orthopaedics, General surgery, ENT, eye, etc.

Apart from regular classes for the third and fourth year BDS students for Anaesthesia, we conduct regular BLS courses for the students along with provision of AHA certification, last on 20.08.22. Apart from these, faculty is involved in teaching in National and international conferences, regular research is being carried out in the department.
